The overlooked details found on a daily walk or favourite place combined with the use of found materials can be rich resources for inspiration. Find beauty and meaning in things retrieved from the everyday connection to the built and natural elements of landscape
Take the fear out of creating a sketchbook or journal. Explore creative ways of developing ideas through mixed media including dyeing and staining pages, drawing with found objects, stitching and layering to open up the thought processes to the creation of your own work.
In this workshop we will work with both paper and fabric and the integration of these two materials. Through a variety of exercises we will explore visual and physical layering and experiment with different collage techniques. The handling of materials – the cutting, tearing, overlapping and arranging bits and pieces into a whole – reinforces the importance of the process. And this spontaneous hands-on way of working helps developing an intuitive feeling for composition.
We will use text as a visual means of communication and work with non-traditional ‘tools’ for writing and mark making.
