This 2 day workshop is all about experimenting with the interaction of paper and stitch. We’ll be including elements and working from the lovely New England environment such as grasses, leaves, found objects, and incorporating stitched elements into a variety of paper manipulations. We will also play with the traditional Korean technique of Joomchi (a type of paper felting best done with the feet and power tools I’ve found) where paper layering and stitch creates new voids and shapes.
You can jump into joomchi with both feet, literally, but I will also be demonstrating and making a piece for everyone so all participants will end up with a piece of joomchi with personal inclusions that you may have brought or collected in the landscape, but if you want to dive in and give it a whirl that will be great! You can bind up a diary of the weekend using an age old binding technique that dates to medieval times using book stitching frames that I will provide. The frames are available for purchase after the workshop if you become addicted.
All joomchi equipment will be provided and all levels of experience catered for.
