Join me in utilising some of my favourite techniques to explore sculptured wearables. Incorporating new techniques from which to stitch, thread and entwine your woolen materials into 3D structured forms. Techniques include soft sculpture, wire manipulation & a 3D printer pen as well as some down to basics sewing tricks.
Together we will create a 3d wearable item to add to your wardrobe, while also adding to your skill base.
Workshop is suitable for a creative beginner through to someone wanting to refresh or try a new technique.

Bio:
Erica an award winning soft sculpture and wearables artist with an extensive working background within the fashion industry. She has adapted her wealth of knowledge into producing an array of stitched, moulded and assembled pieces. Initially influenced by garment design, traditional sewing techniques and construction processes, she now utilises similar principles as well as adapted 3D technology based and infused methods to produce much of her new work. Often utilising elements of freehand extruded printing, machine-based 3D printing, synthetic materials as well as incorporating AR digital and Artificial Luminescence effects. Her work has been displayed nationally and internationally in events such as the World of Wearable Art Awards Show in New Zealand with nine garments over six stage shows as well as a finalist within the iconic National WOW Museum, Nelson, NZ for six consecutive years. Wearable/tech events such as finalist for three years at SARTorial fash-tech event for during Vivid Sydney, BODY HACKING CON, Texas USA, The Paradigm Gallery + Studio in the USA as well as a number of exhibitions within regional galleries, most recently Erica was a finalist in Townsville’s 2017 Strand Ephemera exhibition where she took home the Award for Artistic Excellence and for her wearables recently named Runner-Up in the Wearable Technology Award in the 2017 in the prestigious World of Wearable Art Awards Show. With past awards including the Award for Creative Excellence in the Creative Gen-i section in 2012 and an Honorable Mention for her entries into the World of Wearable Art Awards Show.
Erica’s work is also included in private and public collections including the National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics, La Trobe University, The World of Wearable Art collection and the textile collection at the Tamworth Regional Art Gallery.

Workshop tools and materials list:
Sketch book, pencil
Plyers – small pair (short or long nose)
Wire (galvanized) – 2mm or small gauge- easy to handle and manipulate – 2 meters average
Protective your hands when handling wire with a pair of cotton gloves (dishwashing cotton glove liners)
Sewing kit: including threads, pins, needles, scissors, snippers,
Your own 3D printer pen and filaments (if you have) or you can loan one of my 3D pens for a small fee ($10.00 including PLA filament)
Materials: A jam jar sized selection of bits & bobs (beads, buttons, sequin, seed beads) textured, floral or coloured fabric swatches, wool or blends. Materials – minimum ½ meter (recycled materials also fine)
Twine: waxed threads or cotton twin suitable for jewellery
