These techniques can also be used for larger dimensional sculptural pieces although she will cover small-scale jewellery applications. Lauran will explore two important aspects; focusing on the special methods of working with wire will help the student understand the structural integrity inherent to metal and its potential for dimensional design, emphasis on proper tensioning and the technique of working the wire around the pins, in a systematic manner to achieve precise stitches will be covered in detail. Additional she will cover methods for making all those wire ends “disappear”.

Liz Powell: Paper and Stitch 9-10th February @ The Studio
Feb 9 @ 9:30 am – Feb 10 @ 4:00 pm
Liz Powell: Paper and Stitch 9-10th February @ The Studio

This 2 day workshop is all about experimenting with the interaction of paper and stitch. We’ll be including elements and working from the lovely New England environment such as grasses, leaves, found objects, and incorporating stitched elements into a variety of paper manipulations. We will also play with the traditional Korean technique of Joomchi (a type of paper felting best done with the feet and power tools I’ve found) where paper layering and stitch creates new voids and shapes.

You can jump into joomchi with both feet, literally, but I will also be demonstrating and making a piece for everyone so all participants will end up with a piece of joomchi with personal inclusions that you may have brought or collected in the landscape, but if you want to dive in and give it a whirl that will be great! You can bind up a diary of the weekend using an age old binding technique that dates to medieval times using book stitching frames that I will provide. The frames are available for purchase after the workshop if you become addicted.

All joomchi equipment will be provided and all levels of experience catered for.

Neha Puri Dhir: Shibori - A Celebration of Creativity and Tradition @ Go Create! New England Studio

Shibori- the ancient Japanese technique of resist dyeing on fabric, is not just an art but is a fascinating story in itself. Shibori is a platform where you challenge your creativity to unravel a bold interplay of colours and textures. It involves different types of folding, stitching, twisting and compressing of fabric followed by multiple levels of dyeing to unfold alluring patterns on the fabric.
The explorative workshop by Neha Puri Dhir, a textile artist from India, will involve learning and working on two different resist dyeing techniques such as stitch resist and clamp resist. The workshop will leave you with endless creative possibilities to explore further.
