28 Jun Kath Caddy: Shoe Making
We braved the elements for this workshop – winter has really set in to the New England now and our students worked hard to get their shoes done before dark on the second day. Students chose a variety of fabrics and leathers for their shoes. Denni’s shoes (shown below) were made with kangaroo and sheep skin with a love lace motif over the top. She sewed them together using her home sewing machine (photo below, right).
The other shoes made over the weekend included a delicate pair of soft pink ballet slippers and another two pairs of leather shoes – one with a lairy fabric lining. Kath was excited to share her new knowledge after a weekend’s learning with Rachel Ayland of Bangalow Shoemaking. Each of the students completed their shoes with a beautiful and professional finish. Given a simple design they all came up with something unique and in their own style.
