02 Feb Seraphina Martin: Solar Etching
Seraphina Martin joined us from Sydney for a weekend of solar plate etching on 21-22 January 2017. She took complete beginners and advanced printers right through the process of solar plate etching over the two days. Students were given three plates to use and beautiful printing paper to print onto. A range of techniques explored allowed students to create interesting and diverse work full over colour and detail.
Solar plate etching is an excellent way to produce detailed prints without the use of nasty chemicals. It is a reasonably quick process to learn and beginners felt their finished work was quite exciting. Printers can use their own drawings or other photocopied images to add to their work. Detail can be added with found objects being printed directly onto the paper. Layers of colour can be built up using relief and intaglio printing methods.
Seraphina is a very accomplished printer and an experienced teacher who delivers workshops with ease and grace. Students felt at ease with her and she is very generous with her knowledge. She brought a huge amount of materials to share and was happy to encourage students to explore all the possibilities.
We can’t wait to have her back!
